Upington is situated in the Province of the Northern Cape on the banks of the Orange River, and is known as the Capital city of the Green Kalahari. They call this area the Green Kalahari because, in stark contrast to the surrounding areas, a narrow band of lush green follows the flow of the mighty Orange River. Date Palm Avenue

Planted in 1935 at the Eiland Holiday Resort, there are over 200 palms, measuring a distance of 1 041 meters, making it the longest palm avenue in the southern hemisphere.

Oranjerivier Wine Cellars

Oranjerivier Wine Cellars (OWK) is the largest in the country and the second largest in the world. Its administrative head office is located at Upington and it also has 5 cellars at Groblershoop, Grootdrink, Kakamas, Upington and Keimoes.

This wine cellar cooperation was established in 1965 and it comprises a membership of approximately 750 farmers. The area stretches across a distance of about 300 kilometers with soil composition varying drastically. The range of wines is regarded as among the best as the medals awarded to products at Wine Shows tell their own story.

The Glen Lyon Kalahari Nature Reserve

The Glen Lyon Kalahari Nature Reserve, set in semi-desert terrain, offers an alluring array of activities such as the skilful yet relaxing art of fly fishing for yellowfish, bird watching and first class game drives. For those that love water sports, there are an assortment of interests such as canoeing, river rafting and water skiing, whilst for those that prefer to remain on a more solid terrain, there is the option of tennis.

Augrabies National Park

The Augrabies Waterfalls is situated about 120 kilometers west of Upington on the Orange River. The resort provide units with picnic sites and braai facilities, air- conditioning, a shop, a bar, restaurant, cafeteria, information centre, petrol and diesel pumps, laundry, public telephones, 3 swimming pools, - whatever you need and more. The Augrabies Waterfalls are an awesome sight and a deafening sound of an enormous amount of water rushing down a distance of 56 meters.

This 28 000 hectare holiday resort (on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River) provide sanctuary to a diversity of species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to Springbok, gemsbok and the endangered black rhino.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park (South Africa) and the Gemsbok National Park (Botswana) have been formed in to a Transfrontier Park of over 3,6 million hectare. The park offers a rugged wildlife sanctuary with three rest camps & abundance of game. Red sand dunes, sparse vegetation and the dry riverbeds of the Nossob and Auob show antelope and predator species off and provides excellent photographic opportunities to its visitors.
