Oudshoorn is situated in the Klein Karoo in the Province of the Western Cape, approximately two hours drive from Mosselbaai on the South Coast. The Klein Karoo is certainly an area with an extreme climate. The summers are long and hot with temperatures sometimes reaching above 40 ºC. The winters though short, can get extremely cold with snow often appearing on the Swartberg Mountains after a cold front has passed over. Suspension Bridge

Constructed by Rowley and Sons in London, it was suspended over the Grobbelaars River in 1913, linking the fashionable residential area of West Bank with the center of town. The bridge offers a magnificent view of the Swartberg Mountain.

Arbeidsgenot

Arbeidsgenot was the home of CJ Langehoven, the late South African writer, poet and politician. He is known as the father of the Afrikaans language and he wrote the national anthem of the former white Republic of South Africa, Die Stem.

The Klein Karoo Wine Route stretches from Cogmanskloof outside Montagu in the West to the Langkloof in the East. It forms part of the eight wine regions in South Africa, which are large in area, but small in production. Cango Caves

The Cango Caves is situated 29 kilometer outside Oudshoorn at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley. One will find the finest dripstone caverns with their vast halls and towering formations, located in a limestone ridge, parallel to the Swartberg Mountains. Lost in absolute darkness, a deep stillness, a constant temperature and high humidity, it is a world with its own unique scenery of calcite master pieces formed by gently dripping water.

The tour includes a few natural chambers and takes one on a one-and-a-half hours adventure to explore. Each chamber displays a limestone master piece, created by the forces of nature. There are five basic limestone deposits found along this route, namely Dripstone, Flowstone, rimstone, Roof Crystals and shelfstone.
